CBS 2 News This Morning

This morning, "The News This Morning" officially changed to "CBS 2 News This Morning". Only the wording in the opening changed, and there has been no change to the logo. There are also some "Information Network noises" in the first part of the opening (like at Noon and 4:00). Expect this new name change to carry over to the 5:00 and 6:00 newscasts tonight.

Tiki Talks Sports Monday

This afternoon at 5:45, Brett Haber spoke with Tiki Barber for a few minutes. They talked about the New York Giants' great 2000-2001 season and their disappointing loss in the Super Bowl at the end of January. They also talked about Tiki Barber coming back to CBS 2's "The News This Morning", starting this Monday at 5:00am. He will rejoin the newscast as sports anchor (currently Brett Haber and Gary Apple do the sports via videotape from the night before).

More Anchor Openings!

This morning CBS 2 had a new anchor opening! It begins with a CBS 2 Information Network animation, similar to the one used for "News On The Hour" (it does not have the sources flying by). It has the anchors in it (Lisa Hill, Michael Pomeranz, and Tony Pann), but it does not mention or show the name of the newscast ("The News This Morning"). I'm not sure about what happened at Noon. Studio 59B Repaired

"The News This Morning" was broadcasting from the CBS 2 newsroom Thursday and Friday because Studio 59B, their morning and weekend studio, was damaged in Wednesday night's heavy rains and strong winds. Last night at 11:00, "The Weekend News" was back in Studio 59B. There did not appear to be any changes to the set which could mean that there was damage behind the scenes.

The News This Morning from the Newsroom!

This morning on CBS 2, Lisa Hill and Hazel Sanchez (who's filling in for Michael Pomeranz all week long) anchored The News from the CBS 2 newsroom, but because there is only one camera in the newsroom, they each anchored solo for a half hour (Lisa at 5, Hazel at 5:30, Lisa at 6, and Hazel at 6:30). They said it was because of the rain storm. I'm guessing that it has to do with the Control Room for their morning studio being a few blocks away from Studio 59B. Tony Pann did the weather from the weather center, Carrie Lee was in the traffic center (as usual), and Susan McGinnis did the CBS MarketWatch report from the Nasdaq Market Site. Tiki Barber Re-Signs with Giants

CBS SportsLine.com reports that 25 year old Tiki Barber has re-signed with the New York Giants as running back. The six-year contract is worth $25.5 million, and a signing bonus of $7 million. Tiki Barber joined CBS 2 on March 2, 2000 as morning sportscaster, and stayed until June 23rd. It is expected that Tiki will re-join CBS 2's "The News This Morning" sometime next week.

CBS 2's Morning Storm Watch

As planned, "The News This Morning" started extra early at 4:00am. Michael Pomeranz co-anchored with Cindy Hsu, who was in for Lisa Hill. David Rogers was live on the roof of the CBS Broadcast Center on the West Side (as he has been for all major snow storms this season). Tony Pann was in the studio with more on the forecast. Aimee Nuzzo was reporting from Hopatcong, NJ. Hazel Sanchez was in the newsroom with updates on school closings. Carrie Lee was at Metro Traffic with the road and rail situation (she was also on CBS 2 last night at 6:30). John Slattery was live in Coney Island, and Morry Alter was in Paramus, NJ.

Elevation Of An Archbishop

Tomorrow morning CBS 2 will come on the air at 4:30 with live coverage of the elevations of Archbishop Edward Egan, Father Avery Dulles, and Archbishop Theodore McCarrick to Cardinals. John Slattery will be reporting live from Rome.

Changes to "The News This Morning"

This morning at around 6:50, CBS 2 aired a "Blockbuster Entertainment Report". I find this a bit strange since Hollywood.com is a partner in the CBS 2 Information Network, and CBS 2 has Hollywood.com Entertainment Reports in other newscasts.

Another change was a CBS 2 Information Network news update. During a report ("A Morry Story") at 6:55am, CBS 2 had a graphic on the bottom of the screen changing between a few stories. On the bottom-left, in the shape of the "Info Box", the partners' logos appeared. The four partners that provided news headlines this morning in that graphic were CBS MarketWatch, CBS HealthWatch, The Daily News, and CourtTV.

CBS 2 Extends Storm Watch Coverage

CBS 2 will begin "The News This Morning" a half-hour earlier tomorrow morning, at 4:30am. Michael Pomeranz and Lisa Hill are the anchors, Tony Pann is the meteorologist, and Carrie Lee is the Metro Traffic reporter.
