Tony Pann Leaves CBS 2

Tony Pann filled in for Ira Joe Fisher today at noon, and Michael Pomeranz and Cindy Hsu said goodbye to him. He said that he's going to "the CBS affiliate in Washington so I'll still be a part of 'the family.'" And this afternoon Janine D'Adamo did "Weather On The Hour".

Janine D'Adamo Forecasts The Weather

Keisean tells me that Janine D'Adamo did her first forecast at the top of the 7:55am update. She then did the weather updates at 8:12, 8:25, 8:35, and 8:55. She may also do the "News On The Hour" updates all day long. We're now not sure if Tony Pann will be there at noon.

Tony Pann Leaves CBS 2

This morning on CBS 2 at 6:58, Michael Pomeranz and Lisa Hill announced that Tony Pann was leaving New York, and that today is his last day. He is moving back to Maryland where his wife, Mary Ellen Pann, is a meteorologist in Baltimore. Tony is going to join CBS affiliate WUSA-TV in Washington, D.C. this October where he be the noon meteorologist. Janine D'Adamo, Tony's replacement starting Monday, was introduced today and was even given cake! She also did the five-day forecast at the very end. Tony Pann will fill-in for Ira Joe Fisher today at noon, which will be his final newscast on CBS 2.

The New York Post has the following article today:

Ch. 2 has hired New York native Janine D'Adamo as weekday morning weather anchor. She replaces Tony Pann, who left Ch. 2 after a year to head back to Baltimore. D'Adamo, a licensed meteorologist, comes to Ch. 2 from KTVT in Dallas, where she's worked for the past year. Her stops along the way also include KTBS in Shreveport, La. and two years at The Weather Channel as an on-camera meteorologist. D'Adamo, a Long Island (Dix Hills) native, graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in broadcasting and meteorology. She was also certified in broadcast meteorology by Mississippi State University. Her first on-air appearance is scheduled for Aug. 13.

Columnist Michael Starr reported that Tony Pann has already left, but his last day will be this Friday.

Update On Tony Pann And Janine D'Adamo

On Tuesday we reported that Tony Pann would leave CBS 2 News This Morning this week. It now appears as if The New York Post, our source on this story, was incorrect to report: "Pann's last day is expected to be this week." We've learned that Tony Pann will stay with CBS 2 one more week, and his last day will be Friday, August 10th. Janine D'Adamo will be at CBS 2 next week, but we won't see her yet. That's because she will be in training with Tony Pann and other CBS 2 meteorologists. While we don't know for sure, it looks like Janine D'Adamo's first on-air day will be on Monday, August 13th.

Tony Pann Leaves This Week

The New York Post reports this morning that meteorologist Tony Pann will leave CBS 2 sometime this week. Tony joined "NEWS 2 Weekend" on June 10, 2000. In September, he moved from weekend evenings to weekday mornings. He is reportedly moving back to Baltimore (he joined CBS 2 from WBAL-TV) to be with his wife, Mary Ellen Pann, who is a meteorologist on WBFF-TV.

Tiki Barber Leaves CBS 2 News This Morning

Tiki Barber did his last sports report for CBS 2 this morning. At 6:28am, anchors Michael Pomeranz and Hazel Sanchez (who has been filling in for Lisa Hill all week long) and meteorologist Tony Pann asked Tiki some questions so that viewers could get to know him a little more. The questions included: his favorite invention (the cotton gin), the most influential person in his life (his mother), his mother's favorite son (his twin brother Ronde because he lives in Florida where it's much warmer and better to visit), the best moment in his life (marrying his wife Ginny), the best part of being an NFL star (the camaraderie between players when he wins a game and the love he gets from the city) and worst part of being an NFL star (the camaraderie you don't get when you lose a game), his favorite food (macaroni and cheese), his favorite weatherman (Tony Pann), and if he daydreamed about CBS 2 while playing in the Super Bowl last January (yes he did daydream about waking up at 4:00 in the morning every weekday for a few weeks).

Tiki Barber rejoined CBS 2 on April 30th after first joining CBS 2 March 2nd last year, and he left on June 23rd. He said that he wants to come back next year (after winning the Super Bowl!), but the plans do not appear to be definite yet. I'm sure that everyone wishes Tiki Barber a great 2001-2002 season with the New York Giants!

The News This Morning from the Newsroom!

This morning on CBS 2, Lisa Hill and Hazel Sanchez (who's filling in for Michael Pomeranz all week long) anchored The News from the CBS 2 newsroom, but because there is only one camera in the newsroom, they each anchored solo for a half hour (Lisa at 5, Hazel at 5:30, Lisa at 6, and Hazel at 6:30). They said it was because of the rain storm. I'm guessing that it has to do with the Control Room for their morning studio being a few blocks away from Studio 59B. Tony Pann did the weather from the weather center, Carrie Lee was in the traffic center (as usual), and Susan McGinnis did the CBS MarketWatch report from the Nasdaq Market Site. Here are a few snapshots from this morning:

CBS 2's Morning Storm Watch

As planned, "The News This Morning" started extra early at 4:00am. Michael Pomeranz co-anchored with Cindy Hsu, who was in for Lisa Hill. David Rogers was live on the roof of the CBS Broadcast Center on the West Side (as he has been for all major snow storms this season). Tony Pann was in the studio with more on the forecast. Aimee Nuzzo was reporting from Hopatcong, NJ. Hazel Sanchez was in the newsroom with updates on school closings. Carrie Lee was at Metro Traffic with the road and rail situation (she was also on CBS 2 last night at 6:30). John Slattery was live in Coney Island, and Morry Alter was in Paramus, NJ.

CBS 2 Extends Storm Watch Coverage

CBS 2 will begin "The News This Morning" a half-hour earlier tomorrow morning, at 4:30am. Michael Pomeranz and Lisa Hill are the anchors, Tony Pann is the meteorologist, and Carrie Lee is the Metro Traffic reporter.

CBS 2 Update - Storm Watch, Lisa Hill, and more!

While I was on a vacation for about a week, and while this website was down for over a week, a lot happened regarding CBS 2! I would like to thank David, Teddy, Michael, Brian, and Kevin for keeping me updated while I was away!

CBS 2 Storm Watch Coverage
The biggest storm since the Blizzard of '96 hit the tri-state area all day Saturday. And CBS 2 had expanded team coverage to keep viewers informed. Here's what happened:
Friday, 7:00-8:00pm: Todd McDermott and Angela Rae anchored a one-hour special edition of CBS 2 from Studio 59A. David Rogers had weather. Mostly coverage of the snow storm that was headed directly towards New York City, but also some news, not related to weather, was included.
Saturday, 8:00-9:00am: Michael Pomeranz and Lisa Hill (she went on maternity leave in August 2000 - this was the first time she was back on WCBS since she left). David Rogers also had weather on the rooftop of the CBS Broadcast Center (not the Fifth Avenue studio). Tony Pann was in the studio (59B) with more weather. The first hour of The Saturday Early Show continued at its normal WCBS time, 9:00am, but the second hour did not air.
Saturday, 10:00am-12:??pm: Michael and Lisa had more coverage, which lasted over two hours.
Saturday, 1:00pm: Michael and Lisa had a few more minutes with Storm Watch updates.
Saturday, 2:00-4:30pm: another over-2 hour Storm Watch report with Michael Pomeranz and Lisa Hill, and Metro Traffic reports from Debbie DuHaime (traffic updates from Debbie were all day long).
Saturday, 6:00-6:30pm: Todd McDermott, Angela Rae, and meteorologist Craig Allen had more Storm Watch coverage.
Saturday, 7:00-8:00pm: Todd McDermott, Angela Rae, and meteorologist Craig Allen with another CBS 2 Storm Watch report.
Saturday, 11:00-11:35pm The News at 11:00 with Todd McDermott, Angela Rae, and meteorologist Craig Allen.
Sunday, 8:00-9:00am: Michael Pomeranz and Lisa Hill back with another special weekend morning newscast. Tony Pann with weather, and Carrie Lee with traffic.
Sunday, 6:30-7:00pm: Todd McDermott and Angela Rae with The Weekend News at 6:30.

CBS 2's New Year's Eve Coverage (12/31/00)
Todd McDermott and Angela Rae anchored The News at 11:00 for just over an hour (coverage ended at 12:05am). Tony Pann had weather, and Gary Apple had sports. Live coverage of the famous ball dropping at midnight!

Stephen Clark, CBS News reporter?
David tells me that Stephen Clark, who left CBS 2 on December 22nd, will become a freelance reporter for CBS Newspath for a while, starting tomorrow (Tuesday, January 2nd). He may cover the Presidential Inauguration on January 20th. Will we see Stephen on CBS 2 doing national reports for all CBS affiliates? We will find out soon!

David Rogers and Brett Haber Both Begin Tonight!

Last night at 11:00, Stephen Clark and Dana Tyler said goodbye to Craig Allen, but said he will do the weather for the weekends, and will continue his busy schedule with WCBS NewsRadio 880. Craig Allen said that David Rogers would start tonight at 5, 6, and 11.

Dana Tyler and Stephen Clark also said that it was Warner Wolf's last 11:00pm sports report. Warner Wolf will still do the 6:00pm sports report, and said that Brett Haber would start tonight at 11:00.

It now seems like, after many months, News 2 has a permanent weather anchor lineup. Tony Pann, weekday mornings. Ira Joe Fisher, noon and 4:00. David Rogers, 5, 6, and 11:00. Craig Allen, weekends.

CBSNewYork.Com Adds More Bios

Friday, CBSNewYork.Com added more bios to their News 2 Bios. Added are Brett Haber, Todd McDermott, Tony Pann, Michael Pomeranz, Hazel Sanchez, and Amy Stone. Tony Pann's biography says he is the morning weatherman for News 2. He has been filling in a lot for Ira Joe Fisher in the last few weeks, along with Scott Sumner and Chris Silveri. It is not yet known it Tony Pann will remain as weekend meteorologist.

Amanda Grove and New Meteorologist Tony Pann On NEWS 2 Weekend

This evening at 6:00, Amanda Grove began to co-anchor NEWS 2 Weekend with Vince DeMentri. Amanda Grove previously co-anchored NEWS 2 This Morning with Cindy Hsu, until this past Tuesday. And, meteorologist Tony Pann began on NEWS 2 this evening! Tony Pann is from WBAL-TV (NBC) Channel 11 in Baltimore.

More Information on Todd McDermott and Tony Pann

I found some more information about Todd McDermott (anchor coming to NEWS 2 next week) and Tony Pann (meteorologist coming to NEWS 2 this summer). Todd McDermott is coming from Baltimore's WMAR-TV (ABC) Channel 2. And, Tony Pann is coming from Baltimore's WBAL-TV (NBC) Channel 11.

New Talent Arriving at NEWS 2 Soon!

This morning on NEWS 2, Scott Sumner was the meteorologist, in for Ira Joe Fisher, who is usually only on NEWS 2 This Morning Mondays and Tuesdays. Scott is expected to be only temporary, as a new weatherman is coming to NEWS 2 soon. The New York Daily News reports that Tony Pann, from Baltimore, will be the weekend forecaster, starting this summer. Also from Baltimore is anchorman Todd McDermott, who will join NEWS 2 next week.
