Glaros Heads to WBBM

Megan Glaros is following Kate Sullivan to Chicago's WBBM. The weekend morning meteorologist and weekday entertainment reporter will be doing weather for WBBM's retooled morning newscast. The Chicago Sun-Times reports she will be joined by another WCBS alum: Steve Bartelstein, who will be one of the new morning anchors.

Glaros' last day at CBS 2 was yesterday. While no mention of it was made on-air, Rob Morrison tweeted the news before the cameras turned on:
Attention NY viewers: Last morning with the lovely @MeganGlaros. Our loss is Chicago's gain.
Morrison also tweeted this photo after the newscast:

Glaros announced her move via Twitter later in the afternoon:
It's true! I'm off to CBS Chicago! Going home to do my thing. You're all making me feel very loved!
She began at CBS 2 in May 2008.

Heat Wave Weekend NewsBytes

Here are a bunch of quick headlines for you as you try to keep cool in the tri-state this weekend... Feel free to weigh in in the comments section:

> For the first time since Christmas, Cindy Hsu anchored a newscast. The nearly 15-year veteran of the station filled in alongside Chris Wragge on CBS 2 News at 5:00 and at 11:00, and next to Steve Bartelstein this morning.

> A day after two climbers scaled The New York Times building in Times Square, Don Dahler tried to give viewers a sense of what the two publicity-seeking men were feeling. The anchor climbed a 25-foot wall in Chelsea Piers three times and said that, by the end of the climbs, his arms and fingers were cramping, even though he does rock climbing and has done 200-foot cliffs. "The physical feats these men accomplished are nothing short of astounding," Dahler said, adding that they were "very dangerous, illegal, foolish and they could have easily ended in death." Watch the video on wcbstv.com here.

> Megan Glaros filled in for Lonnie Quinn at 11:00 last night even though Quinn was on hand for the 5:00 and 6:00 newscasts. Quinn had to be in Newport, RI to do the weather live from the "Great Chowder Cook-Off" on this morning's The Early Show.

> And speaking of CBS 2 News at 11:00 last night, there were no commercial breaks until 11:32. Hsu and Wragge did a ten-second tease just after "NUMB3RS" and this is usually followed by a 60-second commercial break. Instead, there were a few seconds of black and then the newscast started up. After the one break at the end, Glaros was called on to give another look at the forecast and Hsu and Wragge chatted about it for a few seconds. In the close, Wragge mentioned that it was a "commercial-free edition of CBS 2 News." Was this intentional?

Glaros Does Weekend Morning Weather

Megan Glaros debuted on CBS 2 News at 5:00 on Wednesday, May 21st as an entertainment and features reporter but did not forecast the weather last weekend. Today was her meteorological debut.

At 6:15, anchors Steve Bartelstein and Mary Calvi both welcomed Glaros. "It's so good to have you here," said Calvi. Bartelstein, always the gift-giver, got his new colleague a coffee mug with an alligator on its floor, telling her, "I know you're from Miami... and there aren't as many gators around here." Glaros said of the present, "So I can scare myself when I get down to the bottom of my drink." Bartelstein explained that his mom always tells him to give gifts on first days because it is supposed to be good luck. "All I have for you guys is storms this afternoon," the meteorologist quipped.

When it was time for her next full weather hit at 6:42, Glaros found something to give to Bartelstein and Calvi. "I don't think Lonnie's going to mind," she said as she handed over the gifts. "Woowww, markers," said Bartelstein of the yellow highlighters.

Glaros to Weekend Mornings

Meteorologist Megan Glaros debuted last night during CBS 2 News at 5:00, and we now know her assignment. According to her biography at wcbstv.com, Glaros will be the meteorologist for the weekend morning newscasts, as well as an entertainment reporter during the week.

Glaros replaces Elise Finch, who had been doing double-duty as the meteorologist for the weekend morning and evening newscasts since John Bolaris left CBS 2 News in December 2007. Finch will continue to appear on the weekend evening newscasts.

Glaros Debuts on CBS 2 News

CBS 2's lead weather anchor Lonnie Quinn welcomed the newest member of the weather team today at 5:18 (watch this clip on wcbstv.com). "I've worked with you in different parts of the country before" he said. "I think you're fabulous." Glaros appeared on the right side of the split screen, reporting live from the USS Kearsarge for Fleet Week coverage. Quinn added, "I love that lady." Both Quinn and Glaros did morning weather in Miami at WTVJ and WPLG, respectively.

"This is the best first day I could possibly have imagined," Glaros said after Lonnie tossed to her. She spoke with a major in the U.S. Marines, who was with her on the deck of the USS Kearsarge. Glaros returned at 5:52 with a package that took viewers inside the Metoc office where the ship's crew makes its weather forecasts. She also appeared during the evening's third forecast at 6:18. "Welcome to the team," Quinn said. "I'm proud to have you on."

Of course this isn't Glaros' first sighting on CBS 2. Since last Saturday, she's been appearing in updated weather factoid promos for the summer. The station also began airing a five-second ID saying, "CBS 2 HD welcomes Megan Glaros."

According to Ken Kaye's Storm Center blog, Megan Glaros was scheduled to give her last forecast at WPLG-TV in Miami this morning. She told Kaye of her new CBS 2 job: "I'll be doing the weekend weather and entertainment reporting during the week. Crazy!" Megan Glaros Joins CBS 2's Weather Team

There have been rumors about this for the past month but it looks like it's official now: the Daily News reports that meteorologist Megan Glaros is joining the CBS 2's weather team. She comes from Miami where she served as WPLG-TV's morning meteorologist. She starts in May and will work either weekend mornings or weekend evenings (both of which are slots that had been filled by Elise Finch since last December).

According to Glaros' WPLG bio, she began her career in television in Parkerburg, WV but, after five months, she decided that the town was too small for her. She then joined Baltimore's NewsCentral and provided forecasts for up to four cities a night. She's been with WPLG since September 2004, has filled in on "Good Morning America" many times and earned her AMS Seal of Approval in November 2006.
