The Difference At 6

In the wake of The Weather Channel shakeup, the 6PM weathercast has a unique characteristic. It is the only forecast to still hold The Weather Channel's logo in the upper right hand corner. This seemed to be an error on Monday, but the logo reappeared today only on the 6, and may continue be there for the near future.

Also, today at Noon, Dana Tyler anchored solo. Alexis Christoforous was off, but CBS News Reporter Alison Harmelin filled in to do MoneyWatch. Chris Wragge joined Dana for the 6.

Dahler Debuts at Noon and 6:00

Don Dahler made his weekday debut today though his new co-anchor was still off. Kate Sullivan filled in for Dana Tyler at noon while Kristine Johnson filled in at 6:00. No mention was made that it was Dahler's first day as permanent anchor of those newscasts.

Dahler is also filling in for Chris Wragge at 11:00.

Dahler to Replace Rosenfield

The Daily News reports this morning that Don Dahler has been named to take over Jim Rosenfield's spot on CBS 2 News at Noon and at 6:00. He'll sit next to Dana Tyler. Dahler joined the station the day after Labor Day, filling in for Rosenfield at 6:00.

Meanwhile, the paper also reports that Steve Bartelstein "picks up Dahler's weekend assignments," presumably meaning that he will do both the morning and evening newscasts on weekends. This is the same assignment that Mary Calvi has had since November when Bartelstein joined.

Rosenfield Signs Off

Jim Rosenfield said goodbye to viewers at the end of CBS 2 News at 6:00 today. "A personal note: This is my last broadcast here on CBS 2," he said. "I just want to thank you for inviting me into your homes every evening." Kristine Johnson, who was filling in for Dana Tyler, added, "You have been so kind, so generous and someone that truly many of us in that newsroom admire. I know Dana is thinking of you at this very moment so, on behalf of her and everyone here at CBS 2, we're truly going to miss you. We wish you many more successes."

As the camera pulled back and the music played out, Lonnie Quinn and Ducis Rodgers were seen shaking Rosenfield's hand before Johnson leaned over for a kiss.

Lonnie Quinn Debuts on CBS 2 News at 6:00

Jim Rosenfield and Dana Tyler welcomed Lonnie Quinn to the station tonight at 6:19. It appears that he will do the weather at 6 and 11. Is John Bolaris going to stay at 5?

Elizabeth Hur Joins CBS 2 News

Elizabeth Hur reported for CBS 2 News at 6:00 today, though it appears not to be her first time. A quick search on wcbstv.com shows that she had packages last Wednesday and Friday.

It looks like she was last at KTVX, the ABC affiliate in Salt Lake City.

Rosenfield Reports Live From The Bronx

Jim Rosenfield co-anchored CBS 2 News at 6:00 from The Bronx tonight while Dana Tyler handled the other stories from the studio. Rosenfield was in the Highbridge section, where most of the reporters were stationed.

On a related note, Chris Wragge had a package air in the first block of the 5:00 news. He interviewed residents of Highbridge to get a sense of the community there.

Interestingly, "Tragedy In The Bronx," the title of the station's coverage, was also used on NBC 4 and FOX 5, while ABC 7 opted to be original with "Bronx Fire Tragedy."

Pablo Guzman to Report on "Latino Power"

CBS 2 News at 6:00 will air a special two-part series next week called "Latino Power." "Pablo Guzman reports on how far the Latino community has come in establishing itself in Corporate America and how Latino business is the fastest growing sector in New York," the press release says. "Both parts examine how numerous Latinos have emerged into extremely successful entrepreneurs and business owners, yet there are numerous realms including politics, where the Latino community still does not have as much visibility as they would like." The pieces will air next Thursday and Friday.

New 6:00 Talent Open

To reflect the recent addition of Double Team Weather coverage, CBS 2 News at 6:00 aired a new talent open at 6:14 today. The open, which aired after the second commercial break, begins and ends with the CBS 2 Information Network logo, and shows various pictures of the anchors. It's very similar to the talent opens which aired for a few months last year beginning in April. The announcer's voice over was this: "You're watching CBS 2 News at Six, with Ernie Anastos, Dana Tyler, Warner Wolf's sports, and weather with David Rogers and Janine D'Adamo." The video clips of the anchors was the same as the former open, except Janine, who was shown talking to the anchors at the desk. It's very likely that the other newscasts will begin sporting these new opens in the near future.

CBS 2 Weather Changes

CBS 2 has changed many of its "News on the Hour" reports to "Weather on the Hour." A new animation, similar to the "News on the Hour" animation, has been playing every hour during the morning and afternoon with Janine D'Adamo giving viewers an update on the weather forecast. The new animation has clouds and says "Weather" instead of "News." "News on the Hour" is still used at 7:55 and 8:55 for the CBS 2 updates during The Early Show.

In other weather-related news, CBS 2 News at 6:00 and Nightcast have been devoting their last segment to "The 24 Hour Forecast," which is just a rundown of the weather forecast for the next day. The six o'clock newscast had been ending with "The Last Word," and Nightcast had been closing with a variety of segments, including Famous Faces and other entertainment-related stories.

"CBS 2 News" is Here!

It looks as if the name change to "CBS 2 News" has officially taken place. At 5:00, the "CBS 2 News at 5:00" opening was used. This has been used two times in the past few weeks. At 5:30, a new "CBS 2 News at 5:30" opening was used (the announcer recorded the voice over again). And at 6:00, it was called "CBS 2 News at 6:00". Previously, this opening has only been used once. "CBS 2 News This Morning" and "CBS 2 News at Noon" have been using the new title since late April.

CBS 2 News at 6:00

Today was the first time that the "CBS 2 News at 6:00" opening was used. "The News at Noon" changed to "CBS 2 News at Noon" on April 25th, then "CBS 2 News This Morning" on April 26th, followed by "CBS 2 News at 5:00" on April 26th and May 2nd. This appears to be a slow changeover because "CBS 2 News at 5:00" has only been used twice. More information on the name changes as soon as more information becomes available.
