CBS 2 News Ticker

Brian tells me that CBSNEWYORK.com has added a "News Ticker". It was announced in yesterday's CBS 2 Info Mail: "Want to keep the latest CBS 2 Information Network headlines on your desktop all day long? Use the ticker button on our homepage to launch the CBS 2 Information Network Ticker!" It's basically a small web page on your computer screen that lists 8 of the top stories, with links to the website for the full story. Users have the option for the ticker to automatically refresh every 5, 15, 30, or 60 minutes.

More on Janine D'Adamo

The New York Post has the following article today:
Ch. 2 has hired New York native Janine D'Adamo as weekday morning weather anchor. She replaces Tony Pann, who left Ch. 2 after a year to head back to Baltimore. D'Adamo, a licensed meteorologist, comes to Ch. 2 from KTVT in Dallas, where she's worked for the past year. Her stops along the way also include KTBS in Shreveport, La. and two years at The Weather Channel as an on-camera meteorologist. D'Adamo, a Long Island (Dix Hills) native, graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in broadcasting and meteorology. She was also certified in broadcast meteorology by Mississippi State University. Her first on-air appearance is scheduled for Aug. 13.
Columnist Michael Starr reported that Tony Pann has already left, but his last day will be this Friday.

Studio 43: A Correction

David tells me that he called the CBS 2 "Volunteer Hotline" (212-975-2003) today, and was told that CBS Sports may continue to use Studio 43, but not for "The NFL Today". The Sunday afternoon football show will continue to use Studio 59A on Fifth Avenue (currently CBS 2's studio), as they did last football season. CBS Sports's coverage of the NCAA college basketball ("March Madness") is expected to use Studio 43, CBS 2's future home. As we reported earlier, CBS 2 will set up a desk/studio in the newsroom for use during the two weeks in March. A few new cameras and a desk were being installed today.

Update On Tony Pann And Janine D'Adamo

On Tuesday we reported that Tony Pann would leave CBS 2 News This Morning this week. It now appears as if The New York Post, our source on this story, was incorrect to report: "Pann's last day is expected to be this week." We've learned that Tony Pann will stay with CBS 2 one more week, and his last day will be Friday, August 10th. Janine D'Adamo will be at CBS 2 next week, but we won't see her yet. That's because she will be in training with Tony Pann and other CBS 2 meteorologists. While we don't know for sure, it looks like Janine D'Adamo's first on-air day will be on Monday, August 13th.

More Information on Studio 43

More information on Studio 43... It will not be changed too much because CBS Sports will continue to use the studio for "The NFL Today" and "March Madness". Small changes include some CBS 2 logos and the logos of the Information Network partners in the background. When CBS Sports moves into Studio 43, CBS 2 will be forced to use the newsroom. For that reason, CBS 2 will build small "studio" in the newsroom with a desk.

Janine D'Adamo's Bio On CBSNEWYORK.com

Keisean writes in to tell me that he noticed Janine D'Adamo's biography has been added to CBSNEWYORK.com! It's basically the same as the KTVT bio, except for minor changes like "I'm now blessed with the opportunity to become the new meteorologist for CBS 2 This Morning -- which starts at 5 AM." and "I feel absolutely priviledged to be here at CBS 2 and I thank you so much for watching!". The same picture from KTVT's website is used on CBS 2's. Tony Pann's bio is still on the website.

Janine D'Adamo Comes to CBS 2

We have now learned who will replace Tony Pann. An inside source at CBS 2 has informed me that Janine D'Adamo will join CBS 2 next week from KTVT-TV in Dallas, Texas, where she has been CBS 11's morning meteorologist for a year. She was born and raised on Long Island, and got her first job at WDAM-TV in Laurel-Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Half a year later, she was offered her first on-air position at The Weather Channel where "I was exposed to every kind of weather event and learned to forecast each one of them." In Shreveport, Louisiana she became KTBS-TV's Chief Meteorologist in 1997. D'Adamo has received the Television Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society and from the National Weather Association.

CBS 2's July 2001 Ratings

While CBS 2 isn't doing very well in the evening or in the morning, they are still number one with their noon newscast. The New York Post reports that CBS 2 News at 5:00 averaged a 2.1 rating in July, or 146,000 households (last July 2000: 194,000 households). At 6:00, CBS 2 News's rating was a 2.2, or 153,000 households. CBS 2 News at Noon (with Michael Pomeranz, Cindy Hsu, and Ira Joe Fisher) is still winning at noon, with a 4.4 rating, or 305,000 households.

Cindy Hsu at the World Dragonboat Racing Championships

CBS 2 anchor Cindy Hsu will be competing in the World Dragonboat Racing Championships in Philadelphia tomorrow through Saturday. She recently wrote about it in her latest "Cindy in the City" column: "There's a group of women that has changed my life. A bunch of running, weight lifting, motivated ladies who have somehow turned the 'queen of couch potatoes' into a semi-active potato. Thanks to my team 'Women in Canoe', I'm now a dragon boat racer." She first got interested in Dragonboat racing last year, and joined her team shortly after. The New York Post had an article on Cindy and her new interest three weeks ago, and a few days later, CBS 2 reporter Amy Stone did a "Slice of Life" report on it. Good luck to Cindy Hsu and her Women in Canoe team!

More Informaiton on the New Format

Michael has told me that he contacted CBS 2, and found out that the date the new studio premieres has not yet been decided. The volunteers/interns that we previously reported on must be 18 years of age or older. They will answer mail, e-mail and phone calls from viewers and give them to the anchors. It appears as if the viewers will be able to interact with CBS 2 Newscasts by letting them express their opinions and answering their questions. We don't have all the details yet, but more information here as soon as we get more!
