Saturday Morning Changes?

Today, Priya David filled in for Mary Calvi on CBS2 News This Morning alongside Steve Bartelstein. David is a CBS News reporter who can be seen on the Early Show and occasionally on the CBS Evening News. It was not clear if she was trying out for the job or just filling in because CBS2 was short-handed. In a funny moment, David smiled while talking about the Yankee's loss against Toronto. Bartelstein reminded her that she shouldn't look too happy about it.

The Saturday Early Show was anchored by Chris Wragge, Lonnie Quinn, and CBS2 Alum Andrea Stassou, who is the current fill-in host of CBS Up to the Minute. Stassou was at CBS2 until November 2006. Also, BMX Star Mike Spinner was one of the guests, doing stunts on the plaza. CBS2's Lonnie Quinn tried to replicate them with mild success.

CBS2-HD Team Coverage of Crane Collapse

CBS 2 News provided extensive coverage of the Crane Collapse on Saturday. Breaking news updates cut into NCAA basketball and coverage continued online at wcbstv.com. At 11PM, Mary Calvi anchored live from the site of the collapse, while Don Dahler covered the rest of the day's news from the studio. Samantha Knapp, Jay Dow and Dave Carlin all contributed live in a split format during a breaking news event. Jim Rosenfield and Chris Wragge had anchored from Westchester and Brooklyn, respectively during severe weather. Mary Calvi last anchored breaking news during an explosion of a brownstown on East 61st Street in July of 2006; Roz Abrams was in the studio.

CBS 2 "Storm Watch" Coverage

CBS 2 Weekend News had special storm coverage last night, beginning at 6:06 (delayed a few minutes by NCAA Basketball). Vince DeMentri and Alexis Christoforous (who was filling in for Kirstin Cole) anchored. Meteorologist Craig Allen was in the studio with the forecast, and Chief Meteorologist David Rogers was outside on the roof on the CBS Broadcast Center. Whitney Casey reported on driving safety from New Brunswick, New Jersey, and Scott Rapoport was in Chelsea following the city's preparedness. Craig Allen also appeared on the CBS Evening News, talking about the area's first major snowstorm of the season. Coverage continued this morning with a special hour of news at 7:00, and then again with a half-hour edition of CBS 2 News at 11:30, with Michael Pomeranz and Cindy Hsu. Aimee Nuzzo was in New Jersey, Paul Fleuranges was on Long Island, and Marcella Palmer was in the City. Ira Joe Fisher was in the studio with the forecast, and Meteorologist Janine D'Adamo was on their West Side roof reporting on the melting snow. Debbie DuHaine had the CBS 2 Road Watch report. More CBS 2 News coverage tonight at 6:30.

CBS 2 Update

Because college football on CBS was using Studio 43 last night, CBS 2 Weekend News at 11:00 was anchored by Kirstin Cole in the CBS 2 Newsroom (it was actually delayed for about 25 minutes). Vince DeMentri was off for personal reasons. The open only began with the first part ("You're watching CBS 2, home of the CBS 2 Information Network."), and then went straight to video of the top story. A second camera has been added to the newsroom for CBS 2 Newscasts that may sometimes originate from there due to CBS Sports's use of Studio 43. Craig Allen did the weather report from the CBS 2 Weather Center, and Gary Apple reported on sports from the Continental Airlines Arena.
(Thanks to Kevin for providing the above snapshots!)

This morning on CBS 2's special Sunday newscast at 8:00, Michael O'Looney and Hazel Sanchez anchored from the studio. Craig Allen was back for the weather forecast, and Lori Blanchard was in the CBS 2 Traffic Center reporting on the roads. A new split-screen was used between weather and traffic: it was the "eye" animation behind the two boxes and the "RoadWatch" graphic underneath (seen at left). This morning on CBS 2's special Sunday newscast at 8:00, Michael O'Looney and Hazel Sanchez anchored from the studio. CBS 2 Weekend News

Sunday, 11/11/01, 9:05am CBS 2 Weekend News
It has now been exactly two months since the devastating attacks on America, and this morning CBS 2 News continued with its special Sunday morning newscasts at 8:00. Cindy Hsu and Hazel Sanchez anchored from the newsdesk. Craig Allen had the weather forecast, and Debbie DuHaime reported on the traffic. This evening, for the first time in many weeks, CBS 2 will have an early weekend evening newscast at 6:30 (the 6:00pm Saturday and 6:30pm Sunday newscasts have recently been preempted by college and professional football).

CBS 2 News This Weekend/Weekend News

Today was the weekend newscast's first chance in Studio 43. Vince DeMentri was there along with Kirstin Cole, who was filling in for Amanda Grove. The open went like this: "You're watching CBS 2, home of the CBS 2 Information Network. Live from the CBS 2 Information Center in New York, this is CBS 2 Weekend News." The title the announcer said in the open, "CBS 2 Weekend News", did not correspond to the graphic on the bottom of the screen, which said "CBS 2 NEWS THIS WEEKEND". At 6:26, Gary Apple (who was reporting from the U.S. Tennis Open in Flushing) said, "Now back to you in Studio 43." Then Vince replied, "Studio 43... Feels good!"

A Preview of a Change?

Kevin tells me that last night, CBS 2 Weekend News at 11:00 used new graphics during the preview at the very beginning. You can see Kevin's snapshot below. The graphic behind the video on the left (seen on the top and bottom) was red, with the CBS eye logo. Kevin also points out that there are more lines on this graphic; more lines than usual. The preview of the 11:00 weekend news usually uses purple and yellow graphics, and on weekdays, Nightcast uses purple and blue graphics here. This could be a preview of new graphics debuting Monday, the same day CBS 2 News moves everything to Studio 43.

New CBS 2 Reporter: Cathy Moss

Sunday, 7/22/01, 7:35am New CBS 2 Reporter: Cathy Moss
Keisean tells me that last night at 11:00 on CBS 2 Weekend News, there was a new reporter. Her name is Cathy Moss, and she may have been hired to replace Sukanya Krishnan, who left last week. More information on Cathy Moss as soon as we get it.

Kirstin Cole To Anchor CBS 2 Weekend News

Brian tells me that a post at his WCBS News NY club says that Kirsten Cole will soon be anchoring the weekend newscasts, as well as being a weekday general assignment reporter. On Friday, we reported that Kirsten Cole would soon be joining CBS 2. While we do not have more information at the moment, it does appear as if Amanda Grove will soon be leaving CBS 2 Weekend News. Another possibility is that a new weekend morning newscast is in the works, although this is probably not the case. We'll have more information as soon as we get it!

CBS 2 Weekend News

At 6:00, "The Weekend News" changed to the "CBS 2 Weekend News". The opening's wording was: "You're watching the CBS 2 Information Network. Live from Fifth Avenue, this is CBS 2 Weekend News." It looks like the "CBS 2 News" is slowly coming!
