CBS 2 News at Noon Snapshots

Snapshots from CBS 2 News at Noon... newest ones on top.

CBS 2 Goes HD

CBS 2 News has gone high definition with new graphics and new music, with the first HD newscast coming at noon.

The eye-2 logo is back to how it looked from last April until the end of August, having been freed from the box. The "HDTV" and the "NEWS" share the position below the bug, at least in the tease graphics. Here are some SD snapshots (click to enlarge):

The music still has the Enforcer signature, but sounds more orchestral; as if it were Enforcer meets WCBS Grand.

CBS 2 HDTV logos are now also present on wcbstv.com:

Stay tuned for more coverage throughout the day and maybe even some HD snapshots...

CBS 2 Names Director of Digital Sales

CBS 2 announced yesterday that it named Brett Prescott to the newly created position of Director of Digital Sales, effective Monday. Here is his job description:
Prescott will develop online marketing campaigns from interactive agencies above and beyond traditional banner and pre-roll video offerings and will work closely with the WCBS-TV sales team to create cross platform campaigns that will engage their target audience on air, online and soon on the mobile front. Prescott will also focus on developing strategic ways to allow WCBS-TV's clients to benefit from reaching a web savvy audience.

Channel 2.1 Shows Masters Tournament

Beginning at 4:00 today, CBS 2's high definition channel showed the USA Network's HD coverage of the Masters golf tournament. It will continue until 7:00 tonight and the same schedule on HD Channel 2.1 will be followed tomorrow.

Meanwhile on CBS 2, the usual Judge Judy, CBS 2 News at 5 and 6 and the CBS Evening News will be seen.

Is this the first time that CBS 2 has aired something different on channels 2 and 2.1?

High Definition NewsBytes?

- You might have thought NewsByte2 was crazy for reporting about the whiter bug the other day. But a poster at TVNewsTalk reports that KYW in Philadelphia's bug had a similar change on Sunday, a day before the station started broadcasting its news in high defition.

- Speaking of the logo/time/temperature bug, it looks like the main control room isn't the one in charge of displaying it anymore. Since it became less transparent, it has not been displaying on wcbstv.com's live feeds of the noon, 5:00, 6:00 and 11:00 newscasts. There are also instances when the bug is not punched up for an extended length of time on TV. It seems as if Master Control might now be responsible for it.

- High definition monitors were recently added to the newsroom. While most of the screens in the background haven't been changed, you can see the two on the right side are new.

- Ducis Rodgers was partially cut off of the screen at the end of his sports report. Could this be indicative of HD cameras now being in place in Studio 46?

So when exactly is CBS 2 going high definition anyway? And how much visually will change? It's been two and a half weeks since the evening set went in hiding. How much of a makeover is it getting?

Whiter Bug

Now this seems like it could be very trivial but it's worth reporting anyway: the CBS 2 logo bug on the screen has been made whiter, for lack of a better description. Below are a couple of images from this weekend:

Saturday morning:
Sunday morning:(It's not just what's behind the bug that's making it look different.)

Could this be related to the upcoming switch to high definition? Or is this really nothing?

And on a related trivial note, the lower-thirds are positioned slightly lower tonight.
