Glaros to Weekend Mornings

Meteorologist Megan Glaros debuted last night during CBS 2 News at 5:00, and we now know her assignment. According to her biography at wcbstv.com, Glaros will be the meteorologist for the weekend morning newscasts, as well as an entertainment reporter during the week.

Glaros replaces Elise Finch, who had been doing double-duty as the meteorologist for the weekend morning and evening newscasts since John Bolaris left CBS 2 News in December 2007. Finch will continue to appear on the weekend evening newscasts.

CBS 2 at the March for Babies

The CBS 2 team participated in this morning's March for Babies in Lincoln Center. The walk, previously known as WalkAmerica, has been going on since 1970 and is organized by the March of Dimes to raise money to combat premature births and help premature babies. CBS 2 is the official media sponsor for the March for Babies.

Sam Ryan and Maurice DuBois hosted the 9:00 kickoff program, which included Giants quarterback Eli Manning. The walk started at 9:30.

New Weather Factoid Promos

Due to popular demand, here's a look at some of the new weather factoid promos that began rolling out last month. They feature the CBS 2 weather team of Lonnie Quinn, John Elliott and Elise Finch. You'll find out why sunglasses are important in the winter, how to forecast winter weather by looking at spider webs, and the difference between sleet and freezing rain. These are winter updates to the ten spots that began airing back in June.

"Eye on the Storm" Saturday

CBS 2 will air a half-hour special Saturday on winter weather. "Eye on the Storm: Extreme Winter Weather" will feature the CBS 2 weather team of Lonnie Quinn, John Elliott and Elise Finch. It begins at 7:00 p.m. For more information, check out this press release or watch this promo:



The special will re-air Sunday morning at 11:30.

CBS 2's last weather special was "Eye On The Storm: The Hurricane Threat," which first aired back in June.

Keefe Says Goodbye

CBS 2's weekend morning anchor Brendan Keefe signed off today.

In the last two minutes of the 8:00 hour this morning, Deborah Garcia said, "We have some sad news to report: Today is Brendan's last day here at WCBS. He is off to Cincinatti with his family... we're going to miss you."

Keefe then said his goodbye: "This is my last morning at WCBS and I wanted to say 'thank you,' for you have invited me into your home these last five years. New York is my home and I am leaving it, literally, for greener pastures with the blessings and support of the good people here at Channel 2. This is the greatest television station in the greatest city in the world and that is because of the people here. You are simply the best. Just know that, wherever I go, I will take you and New York with me in my heart because that's where you will always be. Thank you."

Elise Finch seemed disappointed because his statement was missing something. "He didn't end with a joke!" she said.


Garcia added a few more words. "We're going to miss you so much," she said. "You make three hours fly by... Cincinatti is a very lucky city and your station is very lucky to get you."

Keefe provided some insight into why he decided to make the move. "When you have a baby, it changes everything in the world, and I've got that little six-month-old boy at home. When you look into those eyes, suddenly you decide that maybe going to Iraq every other year isn't necessarily the assignment. So that's why the decision was made."

CBS 2 Sponsors Two Charity Events This Weekend

It's going to be a busy morning for CBS 2 as the station is sponsoring a couple of walks/runs tomorrow.

Cindy Hsu and Jim Rosenfield will be at Battery Park for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes while Lonnie Quinn will take part in the walk at the Bronx Zoo.

Beginning at 10:00 tomorrow morning, Chris Wragge and Kristine Johnson will anchor live from the Tunnel to Towers Run. The press release says that Brendan Keefe and Lou Young will contribute reports while Dana Tyler has an interview with the widow of Stephen Siller, the heroic firefighter who inspired the walk. The hour-long broadcast will also be streamed live at wcbstv.com.

Both events will be covered during CBS 2 News Sunday Morning from 6:00 to 9:00. Elise Finch will provide weather reports from the site of the Tunnel to Towers Run, which begins at the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel.

CBS 2 Presents "Eye On The Storm"

CBS 2 News will air a 30-minute special tomorrow night at 7:00 on the hurricane threat to the tri-state area. The weather team of John Bolaris, John Elliott, Lonnie Quinn and Elise Finch will host.

Finch Takes Over For Carothers

Elise Finch, who first appeared on CBS 2 News' weekend morning newscasts just over a week ago, now looks to be the sole weekend meteorologist.

Liz Carothers, who had been doing the weekend evening newscasts for the past few months, seems to have left CBS 2. This poster on TVNewsTalk.net spotted her on My9 News on Friday night, using the first name Ibby once again (she used this name when she was at NBC 4 prior to CBS 2). She was believed to have freelanced while at CBS 2.

Elise Finch's Weather

CBS 2 News welcomed Elise Finch to the weather team this morning. According to this Wikipedia page, the meteorologist was with NBC Weather Plus until last December. Finch is the second addition to the weather staff just this week. Liz Carothers has been handling the weekend morning slot along with her weekend evening position since Jeff Berardelli left a few weeks ago.
