Stephen Clark Leaves CBS 2

Last night at 11:00, Dana Tyler said goodbye to Stephen Clark. And Stephen Clark said goodbye to Dana Tyler, who will be leaving the 11:00 news. Earlier today on the CBSNEWYORK.COM Message Board, Stephen Clark posted a message for everyone:
To all my friends and viewers: I want to thank you most sincerely for the support you've shown me on these pages. It certainly warms my heart to know so many of you care about me and the general well being of CBS2. Like you, I agree with the concensus that Channel 2 is making a big mistake by letting me go, and by moving Dana off the 11, and in a lot of the others moves the station has made lately. I agree, as you all have made abundantly clear, that the station needs to stop making changes and let viewers get used to the station for a change. But, having said that, as a veteran broadcaster I understand Joel Cheatwood's rationale as to why he thinks he needs to make these changes...although for obvious reasons I don't think it will work. It would also be easy for me to agree with you that you should stop watching Channel 2 immediately. But before you do that I want you to think about all the good people still there...Dana and Ira and Warner and all the great people behind the scenes working against great odds to put on news shows. Your boycott would certainly get your point across, but it would also hurt a lot of good people. Having said that, I am not at all opposed to your continued letters and emails of support sent to Tony Pettitti, WCBS General Manager...I think it's important he understands what viewers think of the changes. I also support your calls and letters on my behalf to other stations in New York. I certainly intend to stay in the city and hope to be working elsewhere as soon as possible. In the meantime, all of you please have a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. If you'd like to contact me...I'm on America OnLine at I'd love to hear from you. Stephen Clark

Emotional Goodbye To Stephen Clark

If you saw the special holiday edition of "New York Live!" today, you know what I mean by saying it was an emotional show. The last 15-20 minutes of the show were holiday memories with the anchors. Ira Joe Fisher read a poem to a bunch of kids in the studio, and then all of the 4:00 anchors were at a table talking about their Christmas memories. Tony Tantillo ("The Fresh Grocer"), Robyn Carter (entertainment reporter), Todd McDermott (news anchor), Ira Joe Fisher (weather man), Dana Tyler (4, 6, and 11:00 anchor), and Stephen Clark (4, 6, and 11:00 anchor) were all there.

At the end, they mentioned it was Stephen's last day at CBS 2. Dana couldn't finish talking, so Ira Joe quickly helped out. Stephen was obviously very sad about this too, as his eyes became very red, and he didn't say much at all, only smiled. Then at the very end, he played his guitar and sang a song to end the show.

Tonight is Stephen Clark's last newscast, at 11:00. It will also be Dana Tyler's last newscast at 11:00 as she has next week off, and Angela Rae takes her place the week of January 1st.

Angela Rae and Ernie Anastos?

Today's New York Post reports that CBS 2 will soon be announcing that Ernie Anastos will do the 6:00 and 11:00 newscasts next month. That was expected. What comes as a surprise to most people is that his co-anchor at 11:00 will be Angela Rae! Dana Tyler will continue to co-anchor "New York Live!" and "The News at 6:00".

Stephen Clark Leaving Next Week?

Justin from PrincetonWeather.com tells me that he talked with Stephen Clark yesterday. He was told that Friday, December 22nd (one week from tomorrow) is Stephen Clark's last day as news anchor on CBS 2 (at 4:00, 6:00, and 11:00pm). He will soon be flying to San Fransisco for a job offer at KPIX-TV, a CBS affiliate. Stephen Clark's contract is supposedly up on January 2nd, the same day Ernie Anastos joins CBS 2. FOX 5 New York is also said to be looking to get Stephen Clark if John Roland retires, which may be soon. If we find anything else out, we will have it as soon as possible!

What Happened To Mark Danon?

From today's BLUEZETTE from NewsBlues.com: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO........Mark Danon, the young CBS weekend weather dude who was busted last summer, outside the WCBS studios, when he reportedly tried to buy cocaine from New York City undercover cops. His new boss, Joel Cheatwood, suspended him...and Danon later pleaded innocent at a hearing. A CBS source tells us Danon "left the station in July and relocated to the West coast." That's all we know. Mark Danon's court date is this Friday. If we find out anything, we'll have it here!

CBS 2 Openings Add Two New Sources

Today on The News at 5:00, I noticed that in the "You're watching the CBS 2 Information Network" opening, the "US News & World Report" logo was added. In the 5:30 opening, the "TLC" and "US News" logos were there, and at 6:00 only the "US News" logo was there.

TLC Joins The CBS 2 Information Network

WCBS-TV New York and cable television’s TLC have reached an agreement to collaborate on programming content for the CBS 2 Information Network, it was announced today by Joel Cheatwood, Executive Vice President of News, CBS O&O’s and WCBS-TV News Director. The new partnership will launch this month on CBS 2.

The agreement provides for the CBS 2 Information Network to televise reports based on upcoming specials and series from the cable network that are relevant to viewers in the tri-state communities. TLC’s long-format, in-depth segments will be televised on the station’s 11PM newscasts.

US News Joins The CBS 2 Information Network

Today on The News at 6:00, Stephen Clark said that US News & World Report has become a new CBS 2 Information Network partner. This evening, US News and CBS 2 did a CBS 2 Reports together. The logo linking to the USnews.com website is now on the CBS 2 page on the cbsnewyork.com website.

Joel Cheatwood, Mark Danon, and Radio City

The Daily News reports that in one of the acts of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, there's a film montage including the city's weather forecasters, like Al Roker, Sam Champion, Storm Field, and Mark Danon. Mark Danon was fired from WCBS-TV in May after buying cocaine near the CBS 2 studio. News director Joel Cheatwood would like to replace Mark Danon with current chief meteorologist David Rogers, but that would cost Channel 2 $70,000 to $100,000. The article also says that Mark Danon's next court date is on Friday, December 8th.

CBS 2 at Noon, Up 25% And Still Winning

The Daily News reports that, while CBS 2's "The News" isn't winning any other time period, they are still winning the noon news race. Not only are they winning, but their viewership is up 25% from last year, when Jim Rosenfield and Cindy Hsu were anchoring News 2 at Noon (and it was before the Fifth Avenue studio)! Currently Michael Pomeranz and Angela Rae anchor The News at Noon from Studio 59A.

Michelle Murray Named Assistant News Director

Michelle Murray has been named CBS 2’s Assistant News Director, it was announced today by Joel Cheatwood, Executive Vice President, CBS O&O’s and News Director, WCBS-TV New York. The appointment is effective immediately.

Murray joined CBS 2 on May 24th as Executive Producer of the station’s, daily 5PM newscast. “From the beginning of her tenure at CBS 2, Michelle has demonstrated the kind of leadership ability and creative insight necessary to guide a rebuilding newsroom like ours,” said Cheatwood.

More News On The Hour

"News on the Hour" appears to only be a morning and afternoon thing. Michael tells me that this morning at 11:00, Michael Pomeranz did the hourly news update. At 1:00, it was with Angela Rae. And at 2:00 and 3:00, Todd McDermott did it.

"CBS 2 Soapbox"

Michael sends in the following about last night's 11:00 news:
For the last two commercial breaks, right before they went to commercial , after they said what was coming up, Dana said, "Here's what people had to say about the election on tonight's CBS 2 Soapbox." Then it showed a graphic with a square with New Yorkers in Times Square commenting about the election. Underneath the box with the people was a CBS 2 Soapbox graphic. I think the reporter was Vince DeMentri, too.
It looks like this is something new, and it began last night!

News On The Hour

Today at 3:00, I saw "News On The Hour". It appears to be hourly 30-second news update. It began with the "Breaking News" music and the ticking sound of a clock. It had the CBS 2 Information Network animation, then a logo that said, "NEWS ON THE HOUR". The announcer said, "From the CBS 2 Information Network, news on the hour." Todd McDermott had a quick look of the two top stories, and then a quick (5-second) weather forecast. At the end, he said, "More news in one hour."

Dr. Laura Moves to 2:07am

The New York Post and the New York Daily News reports that "Dr. Laura" will move from 3:00pm to 2:07am, which the Post says, "is typically a death blow for syndicated TV shows." "Martha Stewart Living" will move from 9:00am to replace "Dr. Laura" at 3:00pm. "Curtis Court" and "Inside Edition" will move from the early morning timeslot to 9:00am. The changes begin on Monday.
(Thanks to David and Michael for sending in this information!)

CBS Broadcast Plaza Closer To Being Completed

In the summer of 1999, the CBS Broadcast Plaza was beginning to be constructed for CBS's new morning program, "The Early Show" (the show celebrated their one year anniversary last Wednesday, November 1st). For over a year, construction appeared to be taking place by the plaza. Today on CBS 2's 4:00pm show, "New York Live!", Ira Joe Fisher, Stephen Clark, and Dana Tyler said that the CBS Broadcast Plaza was closer to being finished. Much of the construction has been completed, and opened up. The new area now includes a few more steps leading up to a platform, which could make room for more "Early Show" concert performances. There also appears to be a fountain.

Election Night Coverage

As you probably know, the next president of the United States is still undecided! Here's a quick look at how CBS 2 covered this election last night and this morning. Coverage began Tuesday morning on The News This Morning, then on The News at Noon. In the afternoon, more coverage on The News at 5:00 and 6:00. At 6:30pm, Dan Rather came on from CBS News Headquarters in New York with a special election edition of the CBS Evening News. At 7:00pm, Dan Rather was back with Ed Bradley, Bob Shieffer, Anthony Mason and Lesley Stahl at the desk. Then at 7:23, and every thirty minutes after that, CBS 2 came on with local election coverage for five minutes (from Studio 59A). CBS 2 also used slightly different graphic with the "Campaign 2000" logo on the left. This morning, there was no local morning news, just the updates on the :23s and :53s. The Early Show began at 7am.

Tuesday, November 7, 2000

Campaign 2000

This morning, CBS 2 used a different opening. First came a different CBS 2 Information Network animation, not the one normally used for the news openings. Then they used the Campaign 2000 animation with the CBS 2 logo underneath it. They also used the Campaign 2000 music. The first announcer said, "You're watching the CBS 2 Information Network..." and the second announcer said, "Now, Campaign 2000 from The News This Morning."

Monday, November 6, 2000

CBS Health Watch segment

Today on The News at 5:00, the "Health Watch" segment with reporter Paul Moniz was renamed to "CBS Health Watch". This change is most likely because cbs.healthwatch.com is one of the many sources of the CBS 2 Information Network. The animation is mostly the same, except the CBS Health Watch logo is used.

Interview Set Changed For Campaign 2000

Friday night, when The News at 11:00 had a special CBS 2/Court TV report, Stephen Clark introduced the story from the interview set, and then introduced Court TV reporter Helen Lucaitis, who did the story.

Now about the set, it appears as if the interview set changed the background to a "Campaign 2000" election background. It's a red and blue background, with white stars, and a few CBS eye logos.

Also, one more thing to note, the weekend edition of CBS 2 is called "The Weekend News" (before the change to the CBS 2 Information Network, it was called "NEWS 2 Weekend").

Campaign 2000 Coverage on CBS 2

Tuesday, November 7th is Election Day 2000! This morning, CBS 2 put their plans for Campaign 2000 coverage on their website. "Count on CBS for the most comprehensive on-air and on-line election night coverage anywhere." Every 90 seconds, the cbsnewyork.com website will report election results, right down to your county!
On television, the CBS 2 Information Network kicks off with The News This Morning and continues throughout the day. CBS News coverage begins at 7 pm, with CBS 2 providing local updates throughout the night, concluding with a special edition of The News at 11, anchored by Stephen Clark and Dana Tyler. CBS 2 will remain on the air until all major area races are decided. We'll call all of the presidential, Senate and key House races, as well as votes on key referenda.
(Thanks to David for sending in this information!)

The News at 11:00 and at Noon

Last night on "The News at 11:00", the "CBS 2 Reports" animation had different music, sounded like the Breaking News music. "The News at Noon" began today at Noon (it was not on yesterday because of the parade).

Monday, October 30, 2000

Evening News Update

Today on "New York Live", the opening was different than the other openings. It looked similar to some of the promos for the show, which started airing on Thursday. After the open, Todd McDermott had a preview of the news, and Ira Joe Fisher had a preview of the weather. After, Dana Tyler and Stephen Clark had a much longer chat than usual, and it appears to be part of the new 4:00 format. Todd McDermott had the news headlines three times (around 4:05, then at 4:31, and at 4:45). Traffic with Heather O'Rourke was twice, at the usual 4:32 and 4:55. Robyn Carter had the "CBS 2 Hollywood.com Entertainment Report" after Ira's weather (the CBS 2 Information Network animation came before the Hollywood.com animation).

At 4:39, a few minutes later than it used to be, "Tomorrow's Daily News Today in New York" segment (the CBS 2 Information Network animation also came before the Daily News animation). The music for the show is the same as used in the commercials, and the graphics are the same, except for the "New York Live!" logo on the left.

On "The News at 5:00", Todd McDermott did a report about the CBS 2 Information Network (same report as the one shown this morning) and there was a "The News at 5:30" opening also. On "The News at 6:00", Michael Pomeranz filled in for Stephen Clark, although Stephen was there for "New York Live!"

"The News This Morning"

This morning at 5am, NEWS 2 officially changed to the CBS 2 Information Network. No changes in the graphics or music in the morning, but the show is called "The News This Morning (on CBS 2)". The opening is different, but still similar. It's very similar to the "top stories" open News 2 used when they changed in April, and lasted only for a few months. At the beginning of all four morning opens, they showed all of their partners, and said, "You're watching the CBS 2 Information Network." Then after that, the opening goes, "Now, live from Fifth Avenue, this is The News This Morning." They have a different bottom and top of the screen and the logo says "CBS 2 This Morning".

Other changes to note:
-The animation between top stories is the same, but a different sound is used.
-The "Traffic and Weather" animation is mostly the same, just slightly different. It has the CBS 2 logo instead, and the words are animated a bit differently.
-The split-screen now has "CBS" written all over the bottom instead of "NEWS".
-The same animation before the opening was also used before the "Inside The Daily News" segment.
-There is a new "Top Stories" open for around 5:45 and 6:45. Similar to the old one, but different words and says CBS 2 instead of NEWS 2. -Todd McDermott did a report about the CBS 2 Information Network.
-There is now a new 30-second commercial advertising the CBS 2 Information Network, with all of the sources, and telling what it is all about.
COMING SOON: Pictures of the new CBS 2 Information Network!

CBS 2 "Out Cues"

I have been told by sources that the new "out cue" (what a reporter says by ending their report) will be, "I'm (reporter's name), CBS 2." This may change what we've been expecting, as the newscasts' titles may change from "NEWS 2" to "CBS 2", not "CBS 2 News" as we have been reporting. More news as it's available!

Friday, October 27, 2000

CBS 2 News Desk

Today at 4:00, the "NEWS 2" logo above the news desk said, "CBS 2". This is one of the latest things to change from "NEWS 2" to "CBS 2", including the CBS 2 Info Box, the Metro Traffic Center's logo, the newsroom background, the CBS 2 Time Capsule, the lower-thirds graphics, and more.

World Series Parade

Now that the New York Yankees beat the New York Mets, 4 games to 1, in the World Series, the parade will be held on Monday. CBS 2 coverage of the parade starts at 11:00am, which means there will be no noon news. Dana Tyler and Stephen Clark are likely to be the anchors for the coverage, because they did it for the 1998 and 1999 parades.

WCBS-TV Launches the CBS 2 Information Network

In an unprecedented move in local television, WCBS-TV New York will be among the most complete and comprehensive sources of information available to viewers in the tri-state area with the launch of the CBS 2 Information Network, on Monday, October 30th, it was announced by Joel Cheatwood WCBS-TV News Director.

CBS 2 Update

This afternoon at 4:00, the animated monitor in the Metro Traffic Center, which used to alternate between "NEWS 2" and "TRAFFIC", now has "CBS 2" and "TRAFFIC". Also at during News 2 at 4:00, Dana Tyler, Stephen Clark, Ira Joe Fisher, and Todd McDermott talked for around a minute about the "CBS 2 Information Network" and "New York Live!", both are starting Monday. They said Todd McDermott will do the news for the show.

New York Live

This morning, CBS 2 began airing a promo about "New York Live". It starts on Monday, and it will be the new name for "News 2 at 4:00".

The promo looks very nice, and it looks like the 4:00 news will remain the same, except Todd McDermott may do the news (they show him when talking about news and traffic). If this is true, he may do the news from either the main desk or the news desk. It looks like there may be new graphics and new music, but we will have to wait.

It appears as if the change from News 2 to CBS 2 News, will begin Monday. It is not yet definite that the other newscasts will change at all, but it is very likely CBS 2 will premiere new graphics and music for the other shows as well. We'll update with new information as soon as we get it.

CBS 2 This Morning

This morning on News 2, the logo on the purple graphic that goes on the right-half of the screen for the top stories, around 6:46am, said "CBS 2 This Morning". The logo used to say "NEWS 2 This Morning". This may be the new name for the morning show.

CBS 2 Information Network

The New York Daily News reports that CBS 2 will launch a television and radio ad campaign calling themselves the "CBS 2 Information Network". It will promote new partnerships with Court TV, VH1, CBS MarketWatch, the Daily News and Hollywood.com. The Daily News also reports that Ernie Anastos returns on January 1st. Because this campaign will start on Monday, it is very possible the change to "CBS 2 News" will also be made on Monday.

"CBS 2 Info Box"

This morning on News 2, the "NEWS 2 Info Box" was renamed to the "CBS 2 Info Box". The change appears when the Info Box has the "CBS 2 Info Box" logo, usually coming back from commercials.

Tuesday, October 24, 2000

News 2 Newsroom Changes Slightly

Today, News 2 changed the logo in the back of their newsroom from "NEWS 2" to "CBS 2". I appears as if everything is changing from "NEWS 2" to "CBS 2", in preparation for the possible name change to "CBS 2 News". We'll keep you updated on this story.

Monday, October 23, 2000

"CBS 2 News" Might Be Here Soon!

Many "hints" were given today about the new CBS 2 News. First, near the end of News 2 at 5:00, Dana Tyler had a preview of what was coming up on News 2 at 6:00. She said, "Coming up on News 2 at 6, a story you'll see only on CBS 2 News." Also, there is a new promo on Channel 2, about the Election coverage. They have the CBS 2 logo at the end, instead of the News 2 logo. And thirdly, this morning (or late last night) the 5-day forecast weather graphic slightly changed. Like the lower-thirds graphics, the bottom now says, "CBS" instead of "NEWS". My prediciton is that News 2 will change to "CBS 2 News" on Election Day, November 7th (that's a Tuesday). More coverage coming soon.

Top 5 at 5

Today on News 2 at 5:00, Todd McDermott introduced a new segment called, "Top 5 at 5". Every Monday, Tony Tantillo, the Fresh Grocer, will have the top 5 fruits and vegetables according to their values and prices. There was also a special graphic at the bottom saying, "Best Buys". As Tony Tantillo says at the end of his segments, "Eat fresh and stay healthy!"

Correction: News 2 O-T-S Graphic Did Not Change

On Thursday, we reported that News 2 changed their Over-The-Shoulder graphic. We have learned that the machine that provides the animated backdrop for the O-T-S had a glitch in it, and then it was taken down and repaired. It appears as if this only happened Thursday afternoon/evening, as it was corrected by Friday morning (possibly Thursday night).

Sunday, October 22, 2000

"News 2 Info Box" on News 2 at 11:00

Last night on News 2 at 11, Amanda Grove said that the "News 2 Info Box" would be on the bottom-left corner of the screen, so viewers could stay updated with the World Series score, without having to miss the news. The Info Box is normally only used on News 2 This Morning, where it shows the weather forecast, sports scores, and traffic delays. Last night, the Info Box had the Mets and Yankees logos on the left, and the score on the right of the logo. When updating the inning (the score did not change during the newscast), the Info Box disappeared for a few seconds, and then came back with the correct inning.

News 2 O-T-S Graphic Changed

The Over-The-Shoulder graphic has changed. The box is still the same, but the animated colors (similar to the animation for the lower-thirds) has been taken away, most of it anyway. It appears now that there's only a little bit of the colors on the top. Sorry for the unclear description, I hope you understand what I was trying to say!

CBS 2 News?

Brian sends this in:
I was on cbsnewyork.com today and I clicked on "Leaders of Tomorrow." They mention "CBS 2 News at 5:00". It appears as if the changes in the graphics represent the change to CBS 2 News. Just though I'd let you know.
Thanks Brian! It will be very interesting to see if the name of "NEWS 2" will change to "CBS 2 NEWS"! In the recent weeks, the cbsnewyork.com website has changed everything from "NEWS 2" to "CBS 2". Also commercials now say, "Weather/News on CBS 2 is brought to you by [sponsor]." Yesterday, we reported that their lower-thirds graphics changed the word in it from "NEWS" to "CBS", and this change has also taken place in their Over-The-Shoulder graphics. The name "CBS 2 News" is currenty used on KCBS-TV Los Angeles, and "CBS 4 News" is used on WFOR-TV Miami. If there is any more news on this subject, we'll bring it to you right away!

Slight Change In News 2's "Lower-Thirds" Graphics

Today I noticed, as well as other News 2 viewers, that they slightly changed their graphics. In the colorful and animated lower-thirds graphics (on the bottom of the screen where the anchors' names are), the word "NEWS" used to appear for a few seconds, then fade out. It now says, "CBS". Many things at News 2 have been changing in favor of the "CBS 2" name. The CBS New York website now has CBS 2 all over the place, it used to be NEWS 2. The "NEWS 2 Time Capsule" also has recently be renamed to the "CBS 2 Time Capsule" at 5:00.

"Can You Believe It?" Only Airs Thursdays

It appears as if the KYW-TV Philadelphia produced consumer segment, "Can You Believe It?", only airs Thursdays on News 2. It premiered last Thursday on News 2 at 5:00 and aired again today during the 5:00 newscast. The segment, with Paul Moriarty as the reporter, airs on KYW-TV, CBS's affiliate in Philadelphia, every day of the week except Friday.

Brett Haber is now the 11:00pm Sports Anchor

Last night at 11:00, Dana Tyler and Stephen Clark welcomed the newest member of the News 2 family, Brett Haber, who will be the newscast's sportscaster. Brett Haber comes to News 2 from WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C. He also used to be co-host of "SportsCenter" on ESPN. Did you watch Brett haber last night? What do you think of his sports report? Let everyone know at our Message Board!

Wednesday, October 11, 2000

David Rogers and "No Nonsense Weather"

Today during the 5:00 news, David Rogers started as weeknight weather anchor. David Rogers. He was previously weather anchor for WKYC-TV in Cleveland, Ohio. Also, "No Nonsense Weather", a quicker weather forecast with the 5-day forecast, began today at 5:45pm. What do you think of News 2's newest addition? Tell us at our message board!

David Rogers and Brett Haber Both Begin Tonight!

Last night at 11:00, Stephen Clark and Dana Tyler said goodbye to Craig Allen, but said he will do the weather for the weekends, and will continue his busy schedule with WCBS NewsRadio 880. Craig Allen said that David Rogers would start tonight at 5, 6, and 11.

Dana Tyler and Stephen Clark also said that it was Warner Wolf's last 11:00pm sports report. Warner Wolf will still do the 6:00pm sports report, and said that Brett Haber would start tonight at 11:00.

It now seems like, after many months, News 2 has a permanent weather anchor lineup. Tony Pann, weekday mornings. Ira Joe Fisher, noon and 4:00. David Rogers, 5, 6, and 11:00. Craig Allen, weekends.

"Can You Believe It?" Is From KYW-TV Philadelphia!

Can you believe it? News 2's new segment, "Can You Believe It?", which began today, is actually from another CBS affiliate, KYW-TV 3 Philadelphia! Same reporter, same segment. "Can You Believe It" airs Monday through Thursday on KYW's "Eyewitness News at 5:00". Paul Moriarty's biography from KYW-TV is located here. (Thanks to Delware Valley Media Watch for telling me!)

New Segment, New Reporter

Today at 5:00, News 2 began a new segment. It's called, "Can You Believe It?", and it is with a new reporter, Paul Moriarty. It appears to be a new consumer segment, with Paul Moriarty trying out some new things, and deciding if they are rip-offs.

Reporters Respond To Posts Regarding Their Stories

The other day, "LouYoung" responded to a post on the CbsNewYork.Com Message Board regarding his story. To read it, click here. This is most likely reporter Lou Young, who reported on this story earlier this week. It would be interesting to see if more reporters reply to messages about their reports.

"A Morry Story" Returns To News 2!

Today at 5:00, "A Morry Story" returned to News 2! Morry Alter's stories used to be called Morry Stories, but they haven't used that title for the past few years. Today, Morry reported live from the top of the Brooklyn Bridge, to give viewers a great view, and reported about a photographer who loves to take pictures from the tops of bridges. Today was not only historical in that "A Morry Story" came back to News 2, but it was the first ever live shot from the top of the bridge!

News 2 Uses HDTV More

Today at the beginning of News 2 at 4:00, the HDTV was between anchors Dana Tyler and Stephen Clark, who were at the desk. It was only at the desk for the first few minutes of the show, but was used in other parts of the set. At 5:00, anchors Angela Rae and Todd McDermott were standing up (not behind the desk) with the HDTV between them with the top story's graphic on it! It appears as if the HDTV will be used a lot more on News 2.

The Latest on Jaxson Richard Hill

Yesterday on NEWS 2 at 4:00, some more information was given about Lisa Hill's new baby boy. Jaxson Richard Hill was born just past noon on Tuesday, September 12th. He's 6 pounds, 4 ounces, and 20 inches long, and everyone is doing fine. (Thanks to Stephen Clark for the information!)

New Meteorologist Coming To NEWS 2

Both the New York Daily News and the New York Post report that David Rogers will join News 2 on October 8th (that's a Sunday) to be the new weekday meteorologist. David Rogers is currently chief meteorologist at NBC's WKYC-TV 3 in Cleveland, Ohio.

This information was announced on Friday at WKYC's website, and David Rogers says, "I've loved my tenure in Cleveland, the city and its people have been so warm and friendly towards me and my family, we'll definitely miss that most. However, this is my dream job, I've always wanted to work in the top television market and now I'll have the chance." For more information on David Rogers, including his picture, click here.

Jaxson Hill

Today on News 2 at 4:00, Dana Tyler announced that Lisa Cooley Hill had her baby today, and his name is Jaxson Hill (different spelling than we reported last month). No more information was given about the baby, like the height and weight of him. If any more information is given, we'll report it to you! Today is also Stephen Clark's birthday (Happy Birthday!!)! "News 2 New York" would like to say, "Congratulations!" to Lisa Hill, and her husband, Richard Hill!

New Microphone Logo

Today on News 2, I noticed that the "microphone flag" logo was now the newer, more rectangular Channel 2 logo. I'm not sure if this was changed sooner, but I first noticed it today. The change is very slight, and you will have to look very closely to notice it, but it did change!

Two Minor Additions to NEWS 2's Studio

Today on NEWS 2 at 4:00, I noticed that there were two CBS eye logos with the letters "CBS" under each between the big windows outside NEWS 2's street-level studios on Fifth Avenue and 59th Street. These CBS logos were probably added during the weekend.

Also at 5:00, NEWS 2 sometimes had an HDTV screen between the two anchors, Todd McDermott and Angela Rae, with a graphic about the story, or the NEWS 2 logo. NEWS 2 has been using this HDTV since January, but began to use it more often within the last few weeks, on the side of Todd McDermott.

New Morning Traffic Reporter

This morning on NEWS 2, there was a new traffic reporter. Her name is Carrie Lee, and it appears as if she if the official replacement for Clark Logan. Since Clark Logan left on August 18th, Don Piccin has filled in for him.

Ernie Anastos Is Coming Back To WCBS

The New York Post, the New York Daily News, and Newsday report that Ernie Anastos will be joining News 2 in either December or January, when his contract with Channel 9 expires. Ernie Anastos worked as anchor from 1989 to 1994 under a five-year contract worth a reported $7 million. Anastos has long been considered one of the city's top two or three most-trusted and best-known anchormen, and has been one of New York's highest-paid anchormen for nearly 20 years. He worked at Channel 7 from 1980 to 1989, when he was lured to Channel 2. He joined Channel 9 in 1996.

"This is a personal decision to return to CBS, where I actually started my TV career as a desk assistant at Ch. 2 when I was a young college student in New York," he said yesterday. It is not yet known which newscasts he will anchor, but it will most likely be News 2 At 6:00 and At 11:00, and it appears Stephen Clark will only do News 2 at 4:00. More news on this as it breaks. For more information on Ernie Anastos, click here.

New NEWS 2 at 4:00 Format?

This past Thursday, it appears as if NEWS 2 at 4:00 changed their format. The two main anchors don't begin at the main desk with the windows, but in the brown "library" set. The anchors preview the show, then get the weather from Ira Joe Fisher, but then turn to the main desk (now called the "news desk") were one of the 5:00 anchors (Todd McDermott or Angela Rae) has the news. It's not yet known if NEWS 2 at 4:00 will keep this format, or if it's just until Wednesday when Stephen Clark gets back (he's been out since Thursday to spend some time with his daughters before they go back to school).

CBS 2 Reports

Over the past Labor Day Weekend, News 2 began airing promos for "CBS 2 reports", starting tonight at 11:00. It appears as if it will be a new series of investigative reports, airing possibly a few nights a week at 11:00pm. Tonight, CBS 2 reports about New York City buses that are allowed on the streets even though they can be as bad to you as second hand smoke.

NEWS 2 This Morning Time/Temperature Logo Changes!

Michael Pomeranz Joins NEWS 2!

This morning, Michael Pomeranz anchors NEWS 2 This Morning, with Hazel Sanchez (who is filling in for Cindy Hsu - Cindy Hsu and Todd McDermott will be anchoring a Survivor preview special at 7:30 tonight). The NEWS 2 Info Box was also back! Michael Pomeranz anchored NEWS 2 at Noon with Angela Rae (Angela Rae began NEWS 2 at 5:00 on Monday, and NEWS 2 at Noon yesterday). Pictures coming later this week!

Monday, August 21, 2000

Angela Rae joins NEWS 2! Mike Pomeranz starts Wednesday!

Today at 5:00, Todd McDermott welcomed his new co-anchor: Angela Rae! She's from CBS's WFOR-TV in Miami, Florida. Angela Rae said that she will be doing NEWS 2 at 5:00, and on Wednesday she will begin to co-anchor NEWS 2 at Noon with Mike Pomeranz, who was originally expected to start a week from today, and that he would anchor the morning and noon newscasts with Cindy Hsu. It it not yet known when Mike Pomeranz will begin to do the morning newscasts, if that is still the schedule. Wednesday is the probable start date, but if not, possibly Thursday or Monday! Stay tuned!

Where is the NEWS 2 Info Box?

Where did the NEWS 2 Info Box go? It used to be on the bottom-left corner of NEWS 2 This Morning's screen, with weather, traffic, and sports scores. We don't know exactly when the NEWS 2 Info Box disappeared, but it was around 2 weeks ago. The NEWS 2 This Morning promos with Cindy Hsu and Todd McDermott still talk a little about it, so maybe it's not gone for too long? The NEWS 2 Info Box premiered in late April.

Todd McDermott's Last Morning on NEWS 2

This morning at 6:56, Cindy Hsu said it was Todd McDermott's last morning on NEWS 2. She also said that there's another Todd viewers don't get to see, so they showed some outtakes when they were filming a 15 second promo, which lasted almost 30 minutes! Then they brought in cake, which Cindy Hsu said she had dropped a few times. New morning and noon anchor Mike Pomeranz was also introduced. Starting tomorrow, Mike Pomeranz and Cindy Hsu in the morning, and then Mike Pomeranz and Angela Rae at Noon! Pictures coming soon!

NEWS 2 Update

Last week was a big week for NEWS 2. Three people left: NEWS 2 At Noon and 5:00 co-anchor Lisa Hill, NEWS 2 This Morning Metro Traffic reporter Clark Logan, and movie critic and reviewer Dennis Cunningham.

On Wednesday, NEWS 2's desk was changed. The new desk now has less of the wood showing on the surface, and that has been changed to a lighter wood color. Other changes include more monitors, and a monitor switching system, which allows the anchors to change what their monitors show. All changes were made for CBS Sports, which will be using the desk for football, and possibly other sports (when the changes were being made, NEWS 2 broadcast from their morning Studio 59B). The desk is used on CBS's The Early Show, NEWS 2 At Noon, 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, and 11:00. Tomorrow: Don Piccin could possibly replace Clark Logan as morning traffic reporter, at least temporarily. At Noon, Todd McDermott will probably co-anchor with Cindy Hsu this week. And, it is likely that Angela Rae will co-anchor NEWS 2 at 5:00 with Todd McDermott, starting tomorrow.

New Sports Anchor From Washington, D.C.

This morning's The Washington Post reports that Brett Haber, sports director at WTTG-TV Channel 5, Washington, will be coming to NEWS 2 in September. Brett Haber, who is a New York native, will be doing the 11:00 weeknight sports report. Warner Wolf, a Washington native, will still do the 6:00 sports report on NEWS 2. For more about Brett Haber, including his picture, click here.

Dennis Cunningham and Clark Logan Leave NEWS 2

Yesterday on NEWS 2 at 4:00, NEWS 2 movie reviewer, Dennis Cunningham, said that he was leaving NEWS 2, after over 20 years (he said he joined in 1978)! A few minutes of old video clips were then shown of Dennis Cunningham interviewing many big stars. Also leaving NEWS 2 is Metro Traffic Reporter, Clark Logan. He's been with NEWS 2 for over 2 years, joining when Eileen Marchese Cohen left. Video clips were also shown of Clark Logan's years at NEWS 2 doing traffic in the morning. For more about Clark Logan, click here. I'll have some snapshots of Dennis Cunningham, Clark Logan, and Lisa Hill leaving coming soon!

Lisa Hill Does Her Last NEWS 2 At Noon

At the end of NEWS 2 at Noon, Cindy Hsu told viewers that it was Lisa Hill's last NEWS 2 at Noon show, but she will do NEWS 2 at 5:00 today and tomorrow, and NEWS 2 at 11:00 tomorrow night. Cindy also said that she will be back in January, 2001. Also at the end, they had a graphic with two hearts which said, "Good Luck Lisa, from everyone at News 2!" If there is any special farewell to Lisa Hill tomorrow, I'll put pictures on my website this weekend.

More On Mike Pomeranz

As reported earlier, Mike Pomeranz will be joining NEWS 2 as morning and noon co-anchor with Cindy Hsu, starting the last week of this month. Mike Pomeranz comes from FOX's WFLD-TV in Chicago. Before he began his television career, he played five seasons of professional baseball, as pitcher for the Minnesota Twins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles, but a shoulder injury ended his career. More information on Mike Pomeranz can be found here.

Another New Anchor Joins NEWS 2

Last Thursday, The New York Daily News reported the following:
WCBS/Ch. 2 continues to add to its on-air roster. The news operation has hired Chicago anchorman Michael Pomeranz to handle morning and noon anchor shifts with Cindy Hsu. Pomeranz joins the station the last week of this month after three years at Chicago's WFLD-TV, where he was also a morning and afternoon anchor. Pomeranz is the latest in a string of recent hires at Ch. 2 as the station attempts to shore up its newscasts under the direction of news director Joel Cheatwood.

It appears as if Mike Pomeranz will co-anchor NEWS 2 This Morning and NEWS 2 at Noon with Cindy Hsu, starting August 28th, and Todd McDermott and Angela Rae will only co-anchor NEWS 2 at 5:00 (Angela Rae starts this Monday).

Robyn Carter on NEWS 2 at 4:00!

Robyn Carter began her newest assignment as NEWS 2 entertainment reporter for the 4:00pm and 11:00pm newscasts. Below are pictures of Robyn Carter's debut on NEWS 2, as well as pictures from the Robyn Carter commercials:

Lisa Hill Leaves Later This Month, But Will Return In A Few Months!

Mike has just informed me that Lisa Hill, NEWS 2 at Noon and 5:00 co-anchor, got married on New Year's Day 2000, and found out she was pregnant a few weeks later (she's having a son next month). Lisa Hill will be leaving on Friday, August 18th on maternity leave, then Angela Rae will take her place at noon and at 5:00. But, Lisa Hill has said that she will come back to NEWS 2 a few months later! Now we don't know if Angela Rae will stay at NEWS 2, or if she'll go back to WFOR Miami, when Lisa Hill comes back. We'll have to wait and see.

NEWS 2 at 4:00's Ratings Are Higher

From Monday's "The Starr Report" by Michael Starr in the New York Post:
Good news for Ch. 2's 4 p.m. newscast, which saw its ratings jump from May to June. Ratings for the 4 p.m. broadcast, anchored by Dana Tyler and Stephen Clark, were up 22 percent in June, averaging 151,000 households. Part of the reason could do with the aforementioned "Survivor" - and interviews with contestants chucked off the island. Ch. 2 also had an impressive guest lineup including BB King, Carmen Electra and Patrick Stewart - no doubt bringing a smile to the face of Ch. 2 news honcho "Joltin' Joel" Cheatwood.

Aimee Nuzzo: New NEWS 2 Reporter

While I was upstate New York, a new reporter joined NEWS 2. Her name is Aimee Nuzzo (last name is pronounced "News-Oh"). And last month, Hazel Sanchez joined NEWS 2. Coming in August: anchor Angela Rae from WFOR-TV 4 Miami to (temporarily?) replace Lisa Hill, and entertainment reporter Robyn Carter from WNYW-TV 5 New York.

This afternoon on NEWS 2 at 4:00, Dana Tyler said that yesterday, July 16th, was her 10th anniversary at Channel 2! And to celebrate, she bought herself a new computer!

Tiki Barber Leaves NEWS 2 This Morning

This morning on NEWS 2, Cindy Hsu and Todd McDermott said goodbye to Tiki Barber, who will be going to New York Giants training camp soon. In the studio was Tiki Barber's twin brother, Ronde, defensive back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Tiki and Ronde Barber hold the distinction of being the only twins playing in the NFL).

There was also cake with Tiki's picture on it! The NEWS 2 This Morning news director, Albert-Phillip Lewitinn, gave Tiki a bag with the CBS 2 logo on it, filled with The Price is Right and other things. Todd McDermott even put on a small New York Giants jersey, saying that Tiki threatened to quit when Todd came, who was born in Buffalo and is a Buffalo Bills fan.

They said Tiki will still be doing "Sports Rap Live!", Sundays at 11:35pm. And, that he will be back sometime (my guess would be when football is over).

NEWS 2 Begins To Use New Graphics, New Music, and New Openings

On Thursday, April 27th, NEWS 2 began to use new graphics, new music, and new openings. The CBS 2 logo is now smaller and higher than it used to be. The bottom graphics are animated, as well as the new Over-The-Shoulder graphics. There is also a new COMING UP animation. A new split-screen also. And, the new openings look somewhat similar to the older ones (which premiered January 24th) because they show scenes of the city, and use the same words, but there is much more animation used. In my opinion, the new openings, graphics, and music are MUCH better than they used to be!
